How To Keep Your New Years Resolutions in 2019
If you’re like most people, you’ll make them — only to break them within a few months.
No surprise here, but one of 2018’s most common resolutions was: eating healthier and getting more exercise. Will those ringing in 2019 make the same goals? Most likely, yes.
Here are a few tips to transition those resolutions into your daily lifestyle
- Start Small – If you’re adding anything to your daily plate, make sure to not overwhelm yourself by overdoing too much. For example, if you’re deciding to start going to the gym, start by doing 2 days a week rather than 5. This way you aren’t setting yourself up for disappointment. The more you add to your plate the more likely you won’t have time or won’t look forward to it.
- Plan a time frame – Buy a calendar or diary so you can plan your actions for the coming weeks or months, and decide when and how often to evaluate. Planning out your goals makes it easier for you to check them off your list.
- Don’t beat yourself up – Obsessing over the occasional slip won’t help you achieve your goal. Do the best you can each day, and take one day at a time.
- Change your mindset – Don’t think of your resolutions as short term goals. Make it a permanent change. Make it a daily part of your life, like brushing your teeth or washing your hair. Think of it as a “must”
- Treat yourself – There’s nothing wrong with rewarding yourself for keeping your goals up to par. In fact, it is encouraged! It helps you keep up the good work!
